Albie Silver is the aging patriarch of his organized crime business, transfers control of his Soho, London Empire to his reluctant son as the new millennia approaches.
Our hero Charlie Silver must decide if the ugly crime business is a path he is prepared to inherit and if he can keep hidden the dark secrets of his father Albie’s past and of his underworld dealings or set himself free from the burdens of his father’s expectations and steely will for him to become the next King of Soho.
A tale of family and society, the skin game and shady deals, law and order, obedience and rebellion, Nicholas A. Price reveals the dark passions of human nature played out against a backdrop of the criminal underworld of Soho London. In the bloody fights between father and son, rival gangs and crime lords, who will be crowned the next King of Soho?
The novel is full of exquisitely detailed characters who, despite leading unconventional lifestyles within a notorious crime family and the criminal environment, experience the triumphs and failures of the human condition. Detailing the complex and secretive lives of each character, this book is filled with the requisite valor, love, and rancor of a great epic.
Nicholas A. Price takes us on a personal tour of life in the criminal underworld through the eyes of Charles Silva, the reluctant gangster, whose contradictions of what is good or evil, who deserves or who is undeserving of punishment is so twisted to normal law-abiding folk that he could give Sigmund Freud a good run for his money on the proverbial couch.
Price’s writing is crisp, colorful and moves along at a pace most readers will find enjoyable. He is an entertaining storyteller, Each character is developed with enough clarity that you’ll be able to understand their motivation and maybe even predict their actions somewhat. The power these characters freely wield in order to play God, and as we all know – that power always comes at a price.
An excellent and gripping read, worthy of my 5 Star Review
